Palestinians are on Tuesday marking the Nakba (Catastrophe) Day when Israel declared statehood in Palestine and expelled its people from their land on May 15 1948.
Protests were taking place across the Palestinian territories on Tuesday with the main rally staged in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank. Demonstrations also took place at the nearby Ofer military prison and Qalandia checkpoint where there were some minor clashes.
In downtown Gaza City, thousands joined a march organized by the HAMAS, an AFP correspondents said.
On May 15, 2011, Israeli forces killed several Nakba Day protesters and injured dozens of others during a similar demonstration in the southern Lebanese town of Maroun al-Ras.
