Afghans have condemned the United States following a video that shows US marines urinating on Taliban dead bodies on the ground, Info Press reports.
The footage, first posted on the Live Leak website, shows four men in military uniforms urinating on three bloodied bodies on the ground, apparently aware that they were being filmed.
It is likely to stir up already strong anti-US sentiment in Afghanistan after a decade of a war that has seen other cases of abuse, and that could complicate efforts to promote reconciliation as invading troops gradually withdraw.
Residents in the southern city of Kandahar as well as in the capital Kabul staged rallies on Thursday to slam the desecration of the corpses, saying the US marines committed crimes.
The demonstrators said “Since they’ve committed such a crime, we don’t want them anymore on our soil, we don’t like foreign soldiers to be on our soil and they have to leave.”
“Foreign troops bring no benefits, just danger. ” one of the demonstrators told Info Press.
Such behavior by US invaders is not rare. In 2004, American invaders abused Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad sparking worldwide condemnations.
